Assignment #2 : Word Processing, Email & Internet
Resources
The advent of the personal
computer and the Internet led to predictions of the obsolescence of
paper or at least a reduction in its use. We have realized the
opposite has occurred. We use, as a society, more paper than ever.
This assignment demonstrates one of the many uses of
electronic communication in education.
Part 1:
- 1. Proceed to the Humanmetrics
website and complete the typology test.
Press "Score It" button after you have finished answering the
questions.At the end of the test you will obtain your type formula
according to Jung - Myers-Briggs typology, strength of the
preferences and one or two descriptions of your type.
- 2. Using word processing software, create a
new document. Save the document with your initials and your type
(four letters). Example: bg_intj.doc
- 3. Copy and paste one of the descriptions of
your typology test into the document. Select the text and format
it Arial, size 12.
- 4. Create a header containing your name
and the class name and semester. Create a footer with the
current date.
To make a header / footer in MS
Word:
- Go to View on the menu
bar
- Select Header and Footer
- Click the toggle to switch from header to
footer. (It looks like a page with a rectangle at the top and
bottom)
- It will automatically make it left
justified unless you tell it otherwise.
- If you prefer another style, highlight the
text and select a different font, size, or style
- To center the text click on the center
alignment icon.
- To automatically number the
pages
- While you are in the footer click on insert
page # (It is a picture of a page with a #)
- 5. Save the word processing document
again.
- 6. ATTACH (do NOT copy-paste) this word
processing document to an e-mail message addressed to the
instructor (cwchadbourne@yahoo.com)
and cc your own e-mail address.
- 7. In the subject area indicate your name,
assignment number and ETEC444.
- 8. In the message area indicate that you have
attached the results of your typology test. Include a reflection
on the test process and your (honest) reaction to the results.
Remember to include a salutation and closing in the
message.
- 9. After class, create an electronic folder on
your home computer to archive your e-mails.

Part 2: Internet Searching
Strategies.
The World Wide Web offers a wealth
of information for educators.
In this assignment, you will have
the opportunity to explore World Wide Web resources. You will also
use the campus email system.
Please go to this page for
some basic information on Internet Searching : Sink
or Swim
- Use the following WORD
document to do the excercises
for Sink or Swim. The links are live hyperlinks.
- When you are done with the exercises, email
the attachment to the instructor and yourself per class
procedures. Make sure you put an appropriately formatted header on
each page of the attachment.
Part 3: Internet
Resources
- 1. Right NOW send one email message to a
classmate, and receive at least one email message from a
classmate. ATTACH (don't copy-paste) a document written in
Word. (Use the above document you just created, or the Flyer
from Assignment #1) Send a copy (CC) to your instructor. Now print
out and submit the email you RECIEVED.
- Turn in the hardcopy to me.
- 2. Next you will explore the myriad of
educational resources on the World Wide Web, use any of the links
from your textbook http://www.scsite.com/tdc3/
website to locate resources.

- After exploring BROADLY,
- 1. Identify FIVE sites you think can
be useful in your teaching.
- 2. Write a one or two page summary listing
the five sites' name (e.g. "NASA
Classroom of the Future Project")
and its URL : http://www.cotf.edu/
- 3. Under the name & url briefly
describe how you think each site could be useful for your
teaching. Try to limit your focus to a subject area or grade
level. Do NOT use sites with lesson plans or webquests for this
assignment. You are looking for CONTENT websites that can be
used for making, extending or as resources for
lessons.
- 4. Include in each listing which grade(s)
and content area(s) it would be appropriate for. You may want
to look at the content standards page at the California
Department of Education or a
standards-based resources page; S.C.O.R.E.
- 3. Save and attach this word processing
document to an e-mail message addressed to the instructor
(cwchadbourne@yahoo.com)
and cc your own e-mail address.
